I am from Holguin(Cuba) and I love it but I will never forget the first time I went to Havana in 2006. I was going to the capital of Cuba to participate in a contest and, well, it was Havana…so I was ecstatic! The city was big, exotic and I just couldn’t help it… I fell in love and I have been in love ever since. The streets… the architecture… The people… The museums… The theaters… The churches… 23 y G… The Rampa… Next year, I graduated and started working in Havana as a teacher, and my special relationship with […]

Haha! You’re right! I was in Havana, Cuba. (la Habana, as they say here) Forbidden fruit to US citizens for 1/2 century, Havana does not disappoint one’s senses and curiosity. The vibe here in Havana is incredible! The energy is all around you. The people are friendly, positive & upbeat about their country and its future. They like Americans, but are leery about the US government. (aren’t most Americans sentiments the same?) The whole of Havana is abuzz with activity in the Tourism sector. I met people from all over the world in my few days here. I met a group that traveled […]

Living in a new country and having a new life makes you long for your roots, makes you wonder you are going and where you are coming from. It is the way it works and I have read many stories about it. So the way I feel is only natural.

So, today, I miss Cuba.

I miss my mom.

I miss my sister.

I miss my newly born niece.

I miss my good friends.

The first Hackathon in Cuba has ended, but the adventure continues. Havana Cuba has got a vibe like no other place I have been. The people are positive, upbeat & want to learn and improve. The 48 hr. Hackathon in Havana exposed me to some of the coolest & smartest people I have ever met. The only thing holding Cuba back from a real force in the global economy is the poor WIFI (or as the Cubans call it WEE-FEE) connections. I could write an entire book on the dramatics I’ve had in just 3 days of trying to get […]
